I would like to thank Essence.com and their Associate Beauty Editor, Nicole Melton, for correcting a misprint on the event coverage for the Textured Talk natural hair get together. The event was on March 25, 2012 - very fun and a huge success. The event was covered on Essence.com, but I was not listed as one of the two host, that hosted the event. So I would like to thank my good friends for pointing this out to me!! :-) And I appreciate Essence for the correction. To see the article, check us out on Essence.com.

"My name is Kendal S. Turner. I am a poet and author. I was featured in the November 2011 issue of Essence magazine in the natural hair edition (with Kerry Washington on the cover). I am also on the bag of Afro Puff weave by lord & cliff. I have been natural for about 6 years now with locs."
Being a Poet and published Author: "I started writing poetry about 5 years ago as a therapeutic way of releasing all of the toxic emotions I felt from my past and present. What started out as healing for me eventually ended up helping other people. They would tell me “you need to write a book!” because my poetry is so personal and transparent. So I googled “how to write a book” and I wrote and self published all of them. One thing led to another and the next thing I knew I was a local celebrity. I love to encourage other women to be true to themselves and live their own truth because you never know who may be inspired by you.” - Kendal
"I'm Susan Daniel, Nigerian based in Verona Italy. I decided to go natural and had the big chop in 2010. But with not having experience [with natural hair] I had my ups and downs and messed it up. But by March of this year, I regained my love for my natural and honestly going natural really helped my self-confidence and made me admire and love me more. I would love to be a model. That’s a dream that I'm hoping will come through. My number is 00393409319483 and my email address is suzzywitbowwow@yahoo." - Susan
Where are you from: My name is Safia and I come from FRENCH GUIANA. If I can say a few words about F.G, it's that when you arrive there you are amazed by its lush Amazonian rainforest that gives the extraordinary view of a green ocean from the plane. The specifity of F.G is certainly the ethnical and linguistic diversity. We have Amerindians, Haitians, Dominicans, Brasilians, Indians, Europeans, Chinese and descendants of African slaves. All of them lives together harmoniously, there is no ethnic stratification like I have noticed in some other countries.
Tell us about your Natural Hair: Now regarding my hairstyle, thanks to my mother, I am deeply tied to my african roots so I decided early that I would have a magnificent mane of natural hair. I started my locs only 6 years ago though. Today, I am proud to be one of the many examples showing that locs can be clean and stylish. I have a successful and blossoming life, locs never prevented me from all of my accomplishments. I think that it is the struggle of our generation to revolutionize the vision of locs and break the erroneous prejudices that this hairstyle suffered. Personally, through modelling, I am participating in valuating natural black hairstyles."
"By the way, I congratulate the excellent initiative of your site, Karen. It shows fabulous [doll] models with natural hair crowns, who reinforce black pride. You can be sure that as soon as I have a daughter I will buy each single doll that you make!
Your advice to others: My message to the readers is - we can be feminine, modern, brilliant, attractive, stylish, sexy, trendy, creative, successful, and all of that with natural hair!!! Plates, braids, afro, locs, short... whatever the way u comb it, thank you to all the proud women who have a natural hair crown, and doing so, participate in the upliftment of black beauty!
For the readers who want more information about my hair regimen, they can find me on my facebook page: where i share positive energy, spiritual thoughts, and natural hair pride, or on my facebook profile."
Salon Grafix has a great cleanser called Healthy Hair Nutrition Conditioning Cleanser. My mom, who has recent gone back to her natural hair texture, tried this cleanser and loves it. She said that it softened her hair and made it very easy to come out any tangles that may have been left behind after her wash.
It's "For people with dry, damaged, and frizzy hair; it is a constant battle with the shampoo bottle and blow dryer to regain the volume and shine that is so desired in the perfect hairdo. However, what many do not realize is that this hair war that they engage in nearly every day is the true downfall of the health and shine of their hair. Shampooing your hair daily is actually the main cause behind the stripping of the natural oils your hair needs to stay healthy, shiny and full of body. Salon Grafix's new Healthy Hair Nutrition Conditioning Cleanser, available as of February 2012, is a single step hair care regimen that uses a color-defending formula to condition and revitalize damaged hair. The refreshing citrus crème-scented cleanser is sulfate-free and formulated for use on all types of hair. Retailing at only $8.49 per bottle the Conditioning Cleanser can be purchased at Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid and other select retailers across the nation."
"I have been officially natural since Dec 13/11 yay!!.. I strongly believe that we need to liberate our natural beauty & share positive energy within our community so others may be inspired. So I have created a personal hair reaffirmation statement in a creative way to inspire others." ~ Sashae
